# Getting Started with Tip.md

## Overview
Tip.md is a platform that allows developers to receive cryptocurrency tips directly to their wallets. This guide will help you set up your account and configure your initial wallet settings.

## Account Setup

1. **Create an Account**
   - Visit [tip.md](https://tip.md)
   - Click "Sign Up" in the top right corner
   - Connect using your GitHub account or email

2. **Verify Your Identity**
   - Complete the basic profile information
   - Verify your email address through the confirmation link

## Initial Wallet Configuration

1. **Add Your First Wallet**
   - Navigate to "Wallet Settings" from your dashboard.
   - Select a blockchain. Tip.md supports:
     - **Ethereum (L1):** For ETH and USDC tips on the Ethereum mainnet.
     - **Base (L2):** For ETH and USDC tips on the Base Layer 2 network. Base is an EVM-compatible L2, meaning it uses the same address as your Ethereum wallet and ETH for gas fees (which are typically much lower than on Ethereum L1).
     - **Solana:** For SOL and USDC tips.
     - **Bitcoin Lightning:** For BTC tips via the Lightning Network.
   - Enter your wallet address. For Ethereum and Base, you will use your existing Ethereum wallet address.
   - You can also connect via a Web3 wallet extension for EVM chains like Ethereum and Base.

2. **Set Default Payment Method**
   - Choose which cryptocurrency you prefer to receive by default
   - This will be highlighted on your tipping button

3. **Configure Split Settings (Optional)**
   - For Ethereum payments, you can set up automatic splits via Splits.org
   - Specify percentages to distribute to multiple addresses
